Gallery Opening | featuring artists Ivete Vaz de Castro Martinez and Morgan Converse
Ivete Vaz de Castro Martinez
“The Gaucho”
Ivete Vaz de Castro Martinez, a visual artist and the executive director and founder of the Med City Art Festival in Rochester, MN, brings us “The Gaucho." This exhibit celebrates a rich cultural heritage shaped by the landscapes across five countries – Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and southern Bolivia – and by two languages – Portuguese and Spanish. Born in Uruguay and raised in Brazil, Ivete Vaz has a profound connection to Gaucho culture, which is beautifully reflected in her artwork.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant
from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, thanks to a legislative
appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Morgan Converse
“Queer Joy Project”
Converse Candids Photography LLC is owned by Morgan Converse (she/her), a body-positive LGBTQIA+ photographer based in Austin. While photography is my medium, self-love is my passion. My work is centered around helping people rediscover their spark - that raw, beautiful magic often buried beneath hurt, expectations, and self-doubt. Through empowerment and boudoir sessions, I create space for people to see themselves differently, sometimes for the first time in years. The Queer Joy Project was created as an extension of these empowerment sessions, to celebrate LGBTQIA+ humans exactly as they are: joyful, authentic, visible, and worthy of taking up space. At a time when the world continues trying to erase queer people, this project stands as a reminder that we have always been here, we are everywhere, and we cannot be erased.
This project is deeply personal to me and connected to my work with Austin MN Pride.
All funds raised through this gallery will be donated directly back to the organization in support of our local LGBTQIA+ community.

Hormel Girls, Presented by Cedar Summerstock Theatre
Cedar Summerstock Theatre (CST), a nationally recognized theatre company based in Mitchell County, Iowa, is bringing a one-night-only performance of Hormel Girls to The Paramount Theatre. Featuring rising performers currently training at some of the country’s most prestigious theatre programs, this is a rare opportunity to experience exceptional talent before they take the Broadway stage.
Originally developed in partnership with Buffalo Gal Productions and the History Theatre in St. Paul, Hormel Girls premiered to sold-out audiences and quickly captured attention with its powerful storytelling and vibrant score. Based on a remarkable true story, the musical follows the Hormel Girls—a post–World War II, all-female drum and bugle corps and sales team formed in 1947 by Jay C. Hormel. What began as a marketing effort for products like SPAM evolved into a nationally touring sensation and popular radio show.
Trailblazers in every sense, the Hormel Girls were a groundbreaking, all-veteran ensemble who redefined women’s roles in entertainment and business—leaving a legacy of independence, talent, and innovation. Don’t miss this inspiring, high-energy production—one night only.
Book & Lyrics: Laurie Flannigan Hegge
Music: Hiram Titus
Show runs for 90 minutes with no intermission.
"As Campy Caravan show, 'Hormel Girls' shines..."
"...truly sings in the ensemble-big campy music and dialogue reminiscent of an old TV variety hour. Titus crafts nice period melodies for Flanigan's witty lyrics." -Star Tribune
"... heavy on charm"…"lighthearted show with nostalgic charm..." -Pioneer Press
Ticket prices shown are for advance sales. Price will increase by $5 at 6pm night of the show.

Gallery Closing | featuring artists Ivete Vaz de Castro Martinez and Morgan Converse (Copy)

Heirloom Fire: Czech Glasswork Presentation & Workshop
Minnesota jewelry artist Andrea Turini brings audiences inside the living traditions of Czech glass and beadmaking. Her presentation, Heirloom Fire: Czech Glasswork, draws on firsthand experiences in Jablonec nad Nisou, a region long recognized as a world center of bead and button production.
Cultural Storytelling
The evolution of the Czech glass industry, from family workshops to state-run factories under communism, and how artists adapted their craft during these changing eras
Generational traditions — families who have passed down lampworking, pressing, and cutting techniques for centuries
The cultural significance of beads and buttons, both as local artistry and as exports that shaped global fashion
The resilience of a cottage industry that once fed an entire region, where survival depended on glass and beadmaking — and the fact that many workshops remain in business today is nothing short of astounding
Interactive Demonstration
Step-by-step look at how a bead and a button are made
Sample beads at different production stages for audiences to handle
A Czech button mold and examples of finished jewelry featuring Czech glass
Following the presentation, participants can enjoy a one-hour hands-on jewelry design session. Each person will design a coordinating set of jewelry.
Participants select from Andrea’s curated collection of authentic Czech glass beads to create their designs. Andrea demonstrates design concepts and assists with selection, then completes the technical finishing (wrapping, crimping and assembly) during class.
Earrings + Bracelet: $50
Earrings + Necklace: $55
Participation requirement: Enrollment in the jewelry workshop is only available to those who attend the presentation.

Open Studio 2nd Floor Gallery
Are you an artist or hobbyist working in another art form? Whether you dabble in drawing, or are an experienced painter, this space is for members to be creative.
Grab your favorite art supplies (paint, paper, canvas, etc.) and use our second floor gallery space for a quiet place to work on your art during our studio hours.
(Occasionally, the second floor gallery will be closed for a private event. The folks at the desk can advise you on when the space will be occupied.)
Muyehpen, presented by Exposed Brick Theatre
The story of Muyehpen has been passed down for generations by the Knyaw (Karen) people of Burma. Known to be the most beautiful Knyaw woman in her time, and possessing supernatural powers, Muyehpen was kidnapped by the king of Siam and became a sacrifice. This is her narrative of resistance and resilience, which lives on today. Written by Ehkhudah Zar, this is the first-ever theater production by a Knyaw playwright in the U.S. and shares the story of Muyehpen with a new generation. Exposed Brick Theatre originally produced the World Premiere of Muyehpen in May 2023 at the Historic Mounds Theatre in St. Paul. The play is performed in English. There will be a talk with the playwright following the performance.
