Seeing Voices

An outdoor art projection of work by Jane Wunrow

During Austin’s Homecoming weekend Jane Wunrow will be exhibiting her art through means of visual projection on the exterior of the Paramount Theater in downtown Austin, MN. As a native of Austin, and an Austin High School graduate, Jane is excited to share her art with her hometown community.

Jane Wunrow’s art is grounded in pen and ink, moments of collage, and layers of gouache. Her aesthetic and conceptual approach is largely influenced by the fragmentary nature of dreams she has received. Thus the abstracted images represent only pieces of fleeting subconscious memories and are not literal representations, but an elusive reflection of our own individual understanding of identity; a metaphysical exploration into the nature of self and our relationship with the Divine.

In 2007 Jane Wunrow received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, MN. Shortly after graduating she gave birth to her first daughter and decided to take a hiatus from focused art making for the next six years, so that she could focus on raising her three daughters. In 2013 Jane returned to her art with a fresh perspective on life and began creating and exhibiting her work throughout the Midwest. Jane Wunrow is a 2017 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
