Stephen Sondheim is, without a doubt, one of America’s most accomplished musicians. This program is a tribute to his versatile genius, both as lyricist and composer.

Performers from MacPhail Center for Music will regale audiences with scenes and arias from his most beloved works, including West Side Story, Company, Into the Woods, and Little Night Music. The repertoire was chosen with an eye to Valentine’s Day. So the concert’s secondary theme is love, but always with Sondheim’s signature realism and witty touch.

Cast: Andrea Leap, soprano; Joey Clark, tenor; Ivory Doublette, mezzo; Dennis Petersen, tenor; Tom Speckhard, baritone

Ensemble: Timothy De Prey, piano; Matt McIntyre, bass; Erik Schee, drums

A full moon glows in the night sky, partially obscured by delicate cherry blossoms in soft blue tones. Tiny specks of light resemble stars, creating a dreamy atmosphere.
